At the end of June 2026 we began an intensive Ethical Leadership Training for junior public prosecutors from the FDRE Ministry of Justice, organized by Sophos Africa as part of its Praxis program. It ran over three days, and each day had one job.

Day one: who you are

The first day centred on self-awareness, values and character development, which we call the bedrock of strong leadership. A young prosecutor will face pressure from every direction. The only steady ground is knowing what you value before someone tests it.

The second day went deeper: morality, ethics and law, alongside defining purpose, mission and strategy. Law tells a prosecutor what is permitted. Ethics asks what is right. A good prosecutor needs both, and needs to know where they differ.

We believe that building the capacity of these young professionals directly shapes institutional development, because individual change is the catalyst for true institutional change.

Day three: real cases

The final day was spent on practical case studies: real-world professional challenges, worked through together, followed by a feedback session.

What came next

Sophos Africa celebrated the completion of the training and the participants received their certificates. The same day, the next phase began, with mid-level leaders at the Ministry of Justice starting their own training.

Sophos Africa describes its mission as cultivating a critical mass of morally transformed and ethically empowered women and men across our nation. Three days with young prosecutors is one part of that work, and we were proud to deliver it.
