Most people have sat through a training that changed nothing. Someone talks, slides go by, certificates are handed out, and on Monday everything is the same. We design our programs to be the opposite.
Three principles
In April 2026 we ran an intensive Training of Trainers in Dessie for representatives of different organizations. They were preparing to roll out Leadership Praxis training in their own institutions. We told them plainly that it would not be a typical “sit-and-listen” seminar. Our method rests on three principles:
- Learning by doing. Moving beyond theory into real-world application.
- Reflective practice. Turning every experience into a leadership lesson.
- Active engagement. Building skills through immersion, not slide decks.
The new trainers left with certificates, but more importantly with the tools to start that kind of change in their own organizations.
Why it works
Leadership is a practice, not a fact you can memorise. People change how they lead when they try something, notice what happened and try again, with others who will tell them the truth. That is why our sessions use real cases, role-play and discussion, and why our 3H method works on the head, the heart and the hand together.
A network that keeps going
Earlier that year, as coordinator of the SAE Praxis Training Programme at Sophos Africa, our founder led a refresher session in Dessie for 50 members of the SAE network, including representatives from Wollo University, institutions and the local community, despite the challenges in the region. Together they shared plans, modelled discussions and elected new chapter leaders.
Trainers who train others, and networks that keep meeting after the program ends: that is how learning by doing spreads beyond one room.
